Upamecano scores for Bayern Munich in Bundesliga clash with Leipzig
Dayot Upamecano has scored his first goal for Bayern Munich as the Bundesliga giants secured a hard-fought victory over RB Leipzig at Allianz Arena on Sunday.
The 21-year-old French centre-back, who joined from Red Star Belgrade last summer, made the breakthrough in the 54th minute when he headed home after a well-worked counter-attack.
It was a sweet moment for the defender, who had struggled to find his feet in Germany so far this season and had been linked with a move away from the club.
But Upamecano's goal proved to be just the start of a thrilling contest that saw both sides create plenty of chances before Bayern finally found their groove.
Leipzig were denied by a string of fine saves from Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, while Robert Lewandowski had a golden chance to score but failed to convert from close range.
But it was Bayern who took control late on,Primeira Liga Hotspots with Leroy Sané scoring a brilliant solo goal after being teed up by Joshua Kimmich.
Sané's strike was the highlight of a fine performance from the German midfielder, who was also involved in the build-up play that led to the winner.
With the win, Bayern moved back into second place in the league table, two points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund. They will hope to continue their impressive form when they travel to Schalke next week.
